The Sunnah Of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Sunnah is the actions and deeds of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The Sunnah is a set of practices that our beloved Prophet (PBUH) adopted in his life.

The Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is followed by Muslims wholeheartedly as a sign of showing love and respect to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was sent to this world for teaching us with his words and actions the way of living the life which is liked by ALLAH (SWT). The Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is helpful in every stage of life.

It is the second set of knowledge after the Holy Quran which is followed by all Muslims.

The Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is categorized into three types:

  1. The sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) are also known as Hadiths.
  2. The actions or the deeds of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) (Sunnah Al Filiyya)
  3. The practices of the people during his time which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) did not deny. (Sunnah Taqririyyah)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was sent into this world to be an example. He is an inspiration for all Muslims. By following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) we show our love and gratitude towards him, as it is mentioned in the Quran:

“Whatever the Messenger has given you – take; and what he has forbidden you – refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.”  Surah Al-Hashr Verse 7

This verse of the Quran is enough to explain to us that Allah has also instructed us to follow what Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has taught us and to refrain from deeds and practices which were not liked or accepted by the last messenger of Allah.

Another reason to follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is that these Sunnahs benefit us in this world and earn our reward for the hereafter.

Let’s go through some of the Sunnahs of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) which are beneficial for us in many ways:

SAY SALAM WHILE ENTERING THE HOUSE:

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to say Bismillah and salaam while entering the house. We as Muslims should also adopt this habit of our Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The reason behind this Sunnah is when you say Bismillah and salaam even if there is no one except you in the house, Satan and all the evil energies leave the house. This Sunnah is so simple and takes no time but it saves you and your home from all sorts of evil.

TO THANK GOD FOR EVERY MEAL:

Whenever you finish your meal, you should thank ALLAH for the food he has given to you. Food is our basic necessity which the Almighty ALLAH provides us every day many times. But what do we do? We do not thank him for the biggest blessing of our life.

Whereas, the Holy Prophet’s sunnah preaches to us to thank God for every morsel we eat and for saving us from hunger and starvation. Also, Allah (SWT) likes those who are thankful to him for his blessings and food is one of the biggest blessings by Allah (SWT) and we should always be grateful for this habit.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also used to recite “Bismillah” which means “In the Name of Allah” before eating a meal and he also used to recite dua after a meal which is as follows:

“Alhamdu-lillahil-lazi at’amana wa saqana wa ja’alana muslimin”

“All praise is due to Allah Who has given us food and drinks and ordained us as Muslims”

(Sunan At-Tirmizi)

USAGE OF HONEY AS A CURE:

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said: “Make use of the two remedies: honey and the Qur’an.”At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Al-Bayhaqi. This Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is now even accepted by medical experts all over the world that honey is a cure for many diseases.

Honey has proved to be anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory which our Holy Prophet has told us years ago. This is one of the many Sunnahs which are now accepted by scientists and doctors who are not even Muslims but they believe in this fact.

SIT WHILE DRINKING AND EATING:

We have been taught the etiquette of drinking and eating and this was also taught by the last messenger of Allah through his Sunnah. He taught us the correct way of eating and drinking. We should sit while eating food or drinking water.

By doing this we do just not obey the Holy Prophet (PBUH) but we also help our body and our system, because this way of eating and drinking helps our body from many diseases.

FINAL WORD:

These Sunnahs or the teaching of the Holy Prophet is a treasure of knowledge that aids us in both ways; spiritually and scientifically.

By following the Sunnah of our Holy prophet (PBUH) we can make our life better and can attain the pleasure of Almighty Allah because Allah loves those who love Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and following the Sunnah is following the footsteps of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) which will take us to Jannah on the Day of Judgment.
