Astagfirullah is the way of asking for forgiveness and repentance from ALLAH Almighty. It is a form of worship that is done by all Muslims. Those Muslims who are guilty of their sins and want to free themselves from them must say astaghfirullah so that ALLAH forgives them and replace their sins with rewards.

WHAT IS ASTAGHFIRULLAH?

The Arabic term Astaghfirullah means “I ask Allah for forgiveness”. It is a statement used in the Islamic religion to express regret and ask Allah for pardon (God). It is a typical repentance expression seen in Muslim prayers and supplications. Istighfar is a way of asking forgiveness from the creator of the world for committing sins knowingly or unknowingly.

Istighfar has been given so much importance in Islam. It saves us from the displeasure of ALLAH (SWT) and protects us from doing sins in the future. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:

“Verily, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than one of you who find his lost mount on which he carries his food and drinks.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

This Hadith explains that Istighfar is a way of pleasing ALLAH. Additionally, the Prophet (peace be upon him) also said:

“The one who continuously asks Allah for forgiveness will be forgiven, even if his sins were as much as the foam of the sea.” (At-Tirmidhi)

HOW TO SAY ASTAGFIRULLAH?

“Astaghfirullah” is an Arabic phrase that means “I seek forgiveness from Allah”. It is often used as an expression of remorse and as a request for forgiveness from Allah. To say “Astaghfirullah” in Arabic, the pronunciation is as follows:

“As-tagh-fir-ullah”

There are several duas mentioned in Quran and Hadith for saying Istighfar. Some of the most common duas used for asking forgiveness from ALLAH are:

• “Astaghfirullaha rabbi wa atubu ilaih”
• “Astaghfirullah“
• “Rabb-ighfir lee, wa tub `alayya, innaka Antat-Taawwabur-Raheem.”

ISTIGHFAR TO INCREASE WEALTH:

Istighfar helps in increasing wealth and provisions. Asking for forgiveness from ALLAH is a source of pleasing him. When we ask forgiveness from ALLAH (SWT) again and again, he accepts our prayers and sends his blessings to us in form of provisions and wealth. Those who are struggling financially or have wealth issues must recite istighfar every day and soon all their financial issues will be sorted by the will of ALLAH. Especially in today’s time when inflation is rising and people are having problems in their jobs and business, they should make Istighfar a part of their life to seek help from ALLAH (SWT).

ISTIGHFAR FOR MARRIAGE:

Recitation of Istighfar also helps in getting a good proposal for marriage. Those who are facing delays in marriage or are unable to find good spouses for themselves, they must do Istighfar. A good spouse is also a blessing from ALLAH (SWT) and a person can only benefit themselves from the blessings of ALLAH (SWT) by asking repentance for their sins. 

Ayat-e-Kareema is also a type of Istighfar that is considered to be very beneficial for seeking protection from bad times and evil people. So if you want to get good life partners then you should recite this verse“La ilaha illa Anta Subhanaka inni Kuntu Minaz Zalimin” and with this powerful verse, ALLAH (swt) will bless you with a good life partner.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU RECITE ISTIGHFAR 100 TIMES?

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said: 

“Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah.”Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3375. 

This Hadith is enough to explain that we should use our tongue in the zikr of ALLAH. Istighfar is also a way of remembering ALLAH (SWT). We should do Istighfar daily and make it a habit. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was the prophet of ALLAH (SWT). He was free from all sorts of sins still he used to spend most of his time asking for forgiveness from ALLAH. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to do istighfar 70 -100 times.

Abdullah Ibn Umar narrated, “We counted that the Messenger of Allah would say a hundred times during a meeting.’Rabbigh fir li wa-tub alayya innaka antat tawwabur raheem,’

“My Lord forgive me and pardon me. You are the Pardoning and Forgiving One.'” [Sunan Abi Dawus 1516]

So we human beings who have done so many sins and displeased ALLAH (SWT ) with our bad deeds must ask forgiveness from ALLAH and should say Istighfar at least 100 times every day.

Moreover saying istighfar 100 times daily should not be wordy but you should have the intention to not repeat the same sin in the future. Seeking forgiveness from ALLAH (SWT) should be genuine and by heart, this way ALLAH (SWT) will be pleased with our astaghfar and bless us with the bounties in this world and on the Day of Judgment.

Istighfar is a powerful way of washing away our sins. It is a powerful means of seeking Divine pleasure. We should not delay asking for repentance from ALLAH. The more we do istighfar the more will be the chances of ranking higher in this world and on the Day of Judgment. Istighfar has countless benefits for every person whether it is acceptance of dua or relief from anxiety and depression istighfar got it all covered.

“If anyone constantly seeks pardon (from Allah), Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he does not expect” [Abu Dawud]
