Dua in Islam is an act of calling upon Allah for help, guidance, and forgiveness from ALLAH Almighty. Dua or supplication is the way of communicating with the ALLAH (SWT). It is the most powerful source of connecting with ALLAH. Muslims convey their thoughts, messages, and wishes to Allah Almighty through making duas. In Islam, dua not only means asking for help or guidance from Allah but also shows faith and trust in ALLAH. IMPORTANCE OF DUA

Dua shows that all the power belongs to ALLAH (SWT). He is the only one and can provide us with anything. No one except him can fulfill our wishes and help us in difficult times. Islam has deeply explained the importance of duas and how it can positively impact our lives. From Hazrat Adam (AS) to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) every Prophet has asked ALLAH (SWT) for guidance and help through different duas.

EXAMPLES OF DUAS IN HISTORY OF ISLAM

Hazrat Adam (RA) was given an exit from Jannah, he used the power of dua to ask forgiveness from ALLAH. Hazrat Musa (AS) used the power of dua and asked for Allah’s s help to fight against Firaun Hazrat Younus (AS) asked the help of ALLAH (SWT) to get out from the stomach of the whale through Dua. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) asked for ALLAH (SWT) at all times when he started his journey of spreading Islam in the Arab. And till now every Muslim recites different Duas or asks ALLAH (SWT) for their every need. Additionally, in every phase of life, we ask Allah‘s help through Dua The Holy Quran says: “And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’” (Surah Ghafir, 40:60). This verse assures us that Allah is always listening and ready to answer our prayers.

DIFFERENT DUAS TAUGHT IS ISLAM

Islam has taught different duas to Muslims through the Holy Quran and Sunnah. These duas can be recited at different events. Some of the Duas which can be recited at different times and situations taught in Islam are mentioned below:
  • Dua for Travel in Islam

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ. وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ. Roman English: Subhanalladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqaliboon. English Translation: “Glory to Him who has brought this (vehicle) under our control, though we were unable to control it (ourselves), and indeed, to our Lord we will surely return.” Reference: Sahih Muslim

Arabic: سُبْحَانَكَ هَذَا بُهْتَانٌ عَظِيمٌ Roman English: Subhanaka hadha buhtanun ‘azim. English Translation: “Glory is to You; this is a great false accusation.” Reference: Al-Bukhari

Arabic: رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا Roman English: Rabbana hablana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lilmuttaqeena imama. Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا Roman English: Allahumma rabban-nas adhhibi al-basa ashfi anta ash-shafi la shifa’a illa shifa’uka shifa’an la yughadiru saqama. English Translation: “O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the difficulty and heal. You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.” Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari

Arabic: إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ Roman English: Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. English Translation: “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return.” Reference: Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:156
  • Dua for Rain in Islam
Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا Roman English: Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna. English Translation: “O Allah, send us rain, O Allah, send us rain, O Allah, send us rain.” Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari

  • Dua for Seeking Good in Both Worlds

Arabic: رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ Roman English: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhab an-nar. English Translation: “Our Lord, give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.” Reference: Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:201
  • Dua for Forgiveness

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ العَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي Roman English: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun kareemun tuhibbul-‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni. English Translation: “O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me.” Reference: Sunan At-Tirmidhi
  • Dua for Protection Against Harm

Arabic: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ Roman English: Bismillahi alladhi la yadurru ma’asmihi shay’un fil-ardhi wala fis-sama’i wa huwa as-sami’u al-‘alim. English Translation: “In the name of Allah with whose name nothing is harmed on earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” Reference: Sunan Abu Dawood
